Hi Tide Poke & Raw Bar Opening Soon

Michael LaVecchia and Jeff Van Dyke met just as LaVecchia and his brothers were launching Poseidon Seafood in 1986. Jeff Van Dyke, then the General Manager of Barley & Rye, a popular South Park seafood restaurant, signed on as one of their first customers.  LaVecchia has been in the seafood and meat business ever since, and in 2011 founded Meat & Fish Co, a distributor of sustainable and high quality seafood, boutique meats, heritage pork and unique birds of the air. Van Dyke has been in the restaurant business all those years and is a founding partner in Brixx Wood Fired Pizza and Boardwalk Billy's Raw Bar & Ribs.

The partnership was born after Michael called Jeff to discuss how to better utilize the storefront space at the Meat & Fish Co. on the corner of Morehead and McDowell.

We are very excited to open our new concept here in Dilworth next week. Hi Tide Poke & Raw Bar will be a Chef Driven Fast Causal Poke Bowl Restaurant and Raw Bar.

The idea came to life after finding an Operating partner, Jeffrey Schreiber, a grad of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in Pittsburgh. He honed his sushi and fresh seafood skills as a chef in Charleston and most recently was the Food and Beverage Director for several hotel properties in Charlotte. Raquel "Rocky" Arreola has joined the team as the Culinary Director. Together we are excited to bring this new and "Fresh" Hi Tide Poke & Raw Bar to our Charlotte neighbors and community.

Happy Saturday Charlotte...

We are very excited to open our new concept here in Dilworth next week. Hi Tide Poke & Raw Bar will be a Chef Driven Fast Causal Poke Bowl Restaurant and Raw Bar.

We first discovered poke years ago on a Hawaiian vacation. Fresh, flavorful and healthy, poke bowls make a near perfect meal. In the last couple of years, poke has gone from being a little known Hawaiian delicacy to a nationwide trend. We want Hi Tide to be more than just another trendy poke joint. As true seafood lovers, we decided to offer a full menu of fresh seafood - think traditional favorites like New England style lobster rolls, jumbo shrimp cocktail and the highest quality, freshly shucked oysters from both the east and west coasts. Hi Tide Poke & Raw Bar pairs all of our fresh seafood with a selection of craft beers, Champagne and great wine from around the world.

So, in the immortal words of Jimmy Buffett, "Give me oysters and beer, for dinner every night of the year, and I'll be fine."

We will use the "Freshest" ingredients found through out this great State of North Carolina and beyond. Executive Chef and Operating Partner Jeffery Schreiber's culinary team is Bringing the "Hi Tide" to Charlotte...! Watch & Wave...! Check Us Out Instagram

What is Poke...?

The word poke simply means "chunk" in Hawaiian.

What is the proper way to pronounce poke...?

Poke is pronounced (poh-KAY) and rhymes with okay.

How do you prepare Poke...?
Generally speaking in Hawaii poke would refer to raw pieces of tuna, Hamachi or super fresh fish cut into cubes, then marinated with soy sauce and sesame oil and mixed with onion; though the variations go far beyond this generalization.

Poke doesn't necessarily have to be tuna or even seafood, nor does it have to be raw or cubed. If can be cooked or raw, cubed or scraped, and doesn't even have to be fish or seafood. Our "Signature Wagyu Beef Bowl will turn heads here in Charlotte.

When I would meet my seafood buyers at the Honolulu Fish auction known as "The Block" in Hawaii there would be small store fronts and food trucks selling Poke at 4:00 am in the morning. After we bought our fish for the day we would eat Poke Bowls for breakfast. Once satisfied we get back on the phone call the chefs on the mainland and sell the bounty.
